Julie is the winner of the Telstra General Painting Award 2023 with her artwork 'Mina Mina 2022'. This is Australia's longest running and most prestigious Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards.
She is one of five daughters born in Yuendumu in the Northern Territory in 1973 to well-known Telstra Award winning artist, Dorothy Napangardi (Died 2013). Since the late 1990’s, while often in the company of her talented mother, Julie has pursued and developed a creative visual language of her own, one which consists of a fascinating blend of stylised experimentation and ancient narrative.
Julie paints graphically minimal and contemporary designs of her country Pirlinyanu, a land of rocky outcrops and deep water springs near Mina Mina, out in remote country, west of Yuendumu. She has moved beyond traditional iconography and created her own visual language.Her work has been included in numerous collections and exhibitions of Aboriginal Art in both Australia and overseas.

Warlukurlangu Artists is famous for its gloriously colourful acrylic paintings. The art centre has a national and international profile and its art has been featured in hundreds of exhibitions and publications in Australia and around the world.
