Warna Jukurrpa (Snake Dreaming) is by Steven Jakamarra Oldfield. The place depicted in this painting is Ngama, located south of Yuendumu on the Northern Territory.

Steven Jakamarra Oldfield was born in 1974 in Alice Springs, where his parents were living at the time. Shortly after he was born, his family moved to Yuendumu, a remote Aboriginal community, 290 km north-west of Alice Springs, in the Northern Territory of Australia. He began painting with the Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation in 2016. Steven paints stories that are closely associated with his traditional country, in particular, his father’s Warna Jukurrpa (Snake Dreaming), stories that have been passed down to him from his father and his father’s father for millennia.

Established in 1985 Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation is a not-for-profit organisation that is 100% Aboriginal-owned by its artists from the remote desert communities of Yuendumu and Nyirripi in Central Australia.  Warlukurlangu Artists is famous for its gloriously colourful acrylic paintings and limited edition prints. The art centre has a national and international profile and its art has been featured in hundreds of exhibitions and publications in Australia and around the world.
