Original Aboriginal art for sale by Sabrina Napangardi Granites.

Sabrina is the daughter of celebrated artist Alma Nungarrayi Granites (Deceased) and the grand-daughter of Paddy Japaljarri Sims (Deceased) and Bessie Nakamarra Sims (Deceased), two of the founding artists of Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal owned and governed art centre located in Yuendumu.

Yuendumu is a remote Aboriginal community located 290 kms north-west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia. The art centre is one of the oldest, continually operating art centres in the Central Desert of Australia. Sabrina was born in 1972 in Yuendumu and attended the local school. She is married and has two daughters whom she is raising. Sabrina has been painting with the Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal owned and governed art centre since 1997.

Sabrina paints the Dreaming stories passed to her from her grandfather and grandmother. They include Mina Mina Jukurrpa (Mina Mina Dreaming); Karntakurlangu Jukurrpa (Women’s Dreaming); and Ngalyipi Jukurrpa (Snake Vine Dreaming). She has worked for the art centre helping with distributing canvas, paints and brushes. Occasionally she goes hunting with her family around Yuendumu collecting bush foods.

How The Art Is Sourced

This artwork comes from Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation in Yuendumu, Central Australia. Established in 1985, it is one of the longest running Aboriginal-owned art centres and operates as a 100% Aboriginal-owned, not-for-profit organisation.

More than 600 artists from Yuendumu, Nyirripi and surrounding communities contribute their work. Warlukurlangu is renowned for its colourful acrylic paintings and limited-edition prints, which have been exhibited nationally and internationally.

The name “Warlukurlangu” means “belonging to fire” in the Warlpiri language. The centre exists to maintain and share Indigenous culture, support artists, and pass traditions to future generations.
