Original Aboriginal Painting – Ursula Napangardi Hudson

Visit our Australian souvenir shop in Manly to view this beautiful Aboriginal artwork in person, or purchase it online.

A striking original Aboriginal artwork by Warlpiri artist Ursula Napangardi Hudson, measuring 61 x 61cm. With a vibrant, unrestricted palette, the painting reflects the rich visual language of contemporary Aboriginal art, where colour, pattern and rhythm express deep cultural connections to Country.

Ursula was born in 1962 in Yuendumu, a remote Aboriginal community located about 290 km north-west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. After marrying she moved to Nyirripi, a community around 150 km west-south-west of Yuendumu, where she has lived ever since. Ursula has been painting with Warlukurlangu Artists since 1993. The art centre regularly travels to Nyirripi to deliver canvases and paints and to collect finished works from the artists.

Ursula paints several important Dreaming stories connected to her family and Country, including her father’s Yuparli Jukurrpa (Bush Banana Dreaming) and Pikilyi Jukurrpa (Vaughan Springs Dreaming), as well as her mother’s Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming). These stories have been passed down through generations for many millennia and relate directly to the land, its features and the plants and animals that inhabit it.

Ursula is one of our most popular artists and at 61 x 61cm, this square format creates a balanced and versatile artwork that works beautifully in many spaces, whether displayed on its own or as part of a collection.

Supplied unstretched, the artwork offers flexibility when framing to suit your home. As the painting has been created from multiple directions, it can be stretched and displayed in different orientations.

This painting is currently available to view in person at our Manly store for those who would like to experience the texture and detail of the artwork up close. It is also available to purchase online, with free standard delivery within Australia and worldwide shipping available.

Each artwork is a one-of-a-kind piece created by the artist and accompanied by documentation confirming the story and authenticity of the work.

How The Art Is Sourced

This artwork comes from Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation in Yuendumu, Central Australia. Established in 1985, it is one of the longest running Aboriginal-owned art centres and operates as a 100% Aboriginal-owned, not-for-profit organisation.

More than 600 artists from Yuendumu, Nyirripi and surrounding communities contribute their work. Warlukurlangu is renowned for its colourful acrylic paintings and limited-edition prints, which have been exhibited nationally and internationally.

The name “Warlukurlangu” means “belonging to fire” in the Warlpiri language. The centre exists to maintain and share Indigenous culture, support artists, and pass traditions to future generations.
