Aboriginal art for sale at Bits of Australia.

This colourful Aboriginal artwork will add vibrancy to any room in the home or workplace.

The painting is by Vanetta Nampijinpa Hudson who was born in April 2000 in Alice Springs Hospital, the closest hospital to Nyirripi, a remote aboriginal community located approximately 430 km north-west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia. Vanetta went to the local school in Nyirripi before attending Worawa Aboriginal College in Melbourne, Victoria. A private boarding school catering for girls in the middle years of schooling. When she finished schooling she returned to Nyirripi.

Vanetta began painting in 2017. She paints her father’s Warlukurlangu Jukurrpa (Fire Dreaming) and Malikijarra Jukurrpa (Two Dogs Dreaming), stories which relate directly to her land, its features and the plants and animals that inhabit it. These stories were passed down to her by her father and his father before him for millennia. She uses pattern and colour to develop a modern interpretation of her traditional culture.

How The Art Is Sourced

This artwork comes from Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation in Yuendumu, Central Australia. Established in 1985, it is one of the longest running Aboriginal-owned art centres and operates as a 100% Aboriginal-owned, not-for-profit organisation.

More than 600 artists from Yuendumu, Nyirripi and surrounding communities contribute their work. Warlukurlangu is renowned for its colourful acrylic paintings and limited-edition prints, which have been exhibited nationally and internationally.

The name “Warlukurlangu” means “belonging to fire” in the Warlpiri language. The centre exists to maintain and share Indigenous culture, support artists, and pass traditions to future generations.
