The dot painting is by Indigenous artists Shanna Napanangka Williams. Shanna is the great grand-daughter of Paddy Japaljarri Sims (Deceased) and Bessie Nakamarra Sims (Deceased), two of the founding artists of Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal owned and governed Art Centre located in Yuendumu. Shanna has been painting with Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, since 2002,

Sharna paints her father's Jukurrpa, Dreaming stories which have been passed down through generations for many millennia. Four generations of Shanna's family are active artists in the organisation, painting their interpretations of traditional stories which relate directly to their land and the plants and animals which inhabit it.

How The Art Is Sourced

This artwork comes from Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation in Yuendumu, Central Australia. Established in 1985, it is one of the longest running Aboriginal-owned art centres and operates as a 100% Aboriginal-owned, not-for-profit organisation.

More than 600 artists from Yuendumu, Nyirripi and surrounding communities contribute their work. Warlukurlangu is renowned for its colourful acrylic paintings and limited-edition prints, which have been exhibited nationally and internationally.

The name “Warlukurlangu” means “belonging to fire” in the Warlpiri language. The centre exists to maintain and share Indigenous culture, support artists, and pass traditions to future generations.
