The generic name for the Waratah is Telopea, which is derived from the Greek work telopos meaning ‘seen from afar.’ Earlier settlers adopted the Aboriginal name Waratah for this handsome plant, which was officially proclaimed the floral emblem of New South Wales in 1962.
The beautiful artwork is by Australian still-life artist Meryl Bell. As one of Australia’s foremost still life floral artists, Meryl’s paintings are featured in notable private collections around the world. The realistic images and brilliant colour capture the beauty of our Australian native flora. Meryl passed away in 2009 and her legacy is continued through this beautiful and practical range of products and Australian souvenirs that we stock.
