The metal ornament has been cut in the local prison and then painted on both sides by Aboriginal artists at the Warlukurlangu Artist Centre. Each shape represents a real dog from the Yuendumu region. It really is an authentic Australian made item!

Purchase of this original piece of art supports a community-based social program focused on keeping animals and people in Yuendumu healthy, safe and happy.

The desert dogs program has been a long running program of Warlukurlangu Artists. Dogs living in the community are brought in by families for de-sexing, vaccines and worming treatments when vets come for their quarterly visits and also receive medical intervention when necessary. Withsupport from organisations and donations from the public and private sectors the program now encompasses Yuendumu, Nyirripi, Yuelamu and surrounding areas in the remote Northern Territory. People in the community are keen to engage with the centre to keep their dogs and animals healthy, safe and well cared for. Visiting vets are well received in the participating communities and families are open to having their dogs and cats neutered and spayed. This leads to happy, healthy animals and people in community.
