Joy Nangala Brown was born in Alice Springs and spent most of her childhood at Yuendumu, although did several years of schooling in Alice Springs at Yirara College. Yuendumu is in the Central Desert of Australia and is located 290km north west from Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.
Joy is the daughter of the successful Pintupi artist Pegleg Jampijinpa, and grew up with his art work around her. She has been painting with Warlukurlangu Artists since 2006. Joy paints her Father’s and Grandfather’s Lappi Lappi Jukurrpa stories. They relate directly to the land and its features, and the plants and animals that live on it.
The site for this Dreaming is Yumari, a collection of rocks west of Kintore in the Gibson Desert. Yumari is the site of a forbidden love union between a Japaljarri man and a Nangala woman.
The original Aboriginal artwork makes a special Australian gift for family and friends overseas, for special birthdays, Christmas or as a wedding present. It is also a striking statement piece of wall art for the home or office.
Every painting is accompanied by a signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity which tells the story relating to the painting and some information about the artist.
Established in 1985 Warlukurlangu is a not-for-profit organisation that is 100% Aboriginal-owned by its artists from the remote desert communities of Yuendumu and Nyirripi in Central Australia. Warlukurlangu Artists is famous for its gloriously colourful acrylic paintings. The art centre has a national and international profile and its art has been featured in hundreds of exhibitions and publications in Australia and around the world.
