This colourful metal dog ornament has been hand painted on both sides in the Northern Territory at the Aboriginal owned Warlukurlangu Art Centre.

The one of a kind metal desert dogs are created as part of a great community initiative and they make a unique Australian gift.

Product Details:

  • approximately 17cm long and 10cm high
  • comes with a tag with information about the art program
  • a unique one of a kind hand painted item

Purchase of this original piece of art supports a community-based social program focused on keeping animals and people in Yuendumu healthy, safe and happy.

The metal ornament has been cut in the local prison and then painted on both sides by Aboriginal artists at the Warlukurlangu Artist Centre. Each shape we sell represents a real dog from the Yuendumu region. It really is an authentic Australian made item!

This dog is Rudolf. He is very sweet and an extremely loyal dog. He loves his owner in Yuendumu and doesn't ever want to leave her.

The desert dogs program has been a long running program of Warlukurlangu Artists. Dogs living in the community are brought in by families for de-sexing, vaccines and worming treatments when vets come for their quarterly visits and also receive medical intervention when necessary. With support from organisations and donations from the public and private sectors the program now encompasses Yuendumu, Nyirripi, Yuelamu and surrounding areas in remote Northern Territory. People in the community are keen to engage with the centre to keep their dogs and animals healthy, safe and well cared for. Visiting vets are well received in the participating communities and families are open to having their dogs and cats neutered and spayed. This leads to happy, healthy animals and people in community.

A wonderful Australian gift for corporate events or a special present for birthdays and Christmas.

As this is a unique one of a kind hand painted item the artwork and textures of the ornament also have their individual characteristics and the photo imagery will not always pick up on these.
