This painting is titled Mina Mina Jukurrpa (Mina Mina Dreaming) and it was created by Warlukurlangu artist Shemaiah Napanangka Granites.
Shemaiah paints this Jukurrpa which has been passed down through generations over many millennia, using traditional Warlpiri iconography to represent different aspects of the Dreaming story. Mina Mina is an important women's dreaming site near Lake Mackay, where ancestral women in the Dreaming time danced until digging sticks, 'karlangu', rose out of the ground, allowing them to hunt for bush tucker while they travelled on their long journeys to the east. They also collected snake vine and created many features of the landscape as they went. This painting represents the story of Mina Mina and the journeys which the ancestors took.
Established in 1985 Warlukurlangu is a not-for-profit organisation that is 100% Aboriginal-owned by its artists from the remote desert communities of Yuendumu and Nyirripi in Central Australia. Warlukurlangu Artists is famous for its gloriously colourful acrylic paintings. The art centre has a national and international profile and its art has been featured in hundreds of exhibitions and publications in Australia and around the world.
Every painting is accompanied by a signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity which tells the story relating to the painting and some information about the artist.
