Original Aboriginal art for sale that is ready to hang.

The 30cm x 30cm canvas is an authentic Indigenous artwork by Watson Jangala Robertson from Central Australia and has been stretched and is ready to hang on your wall.

Watson was born into a family of established Warlpiri artists—who would take him out bush, around Nyirripi and Yuendumu, showing him sites and teaching him the traditional ways of his country. He paints his Mother’s Watiya-warnu Jukurrpa (Seed Dreaming) and his grandfather’s Ngapa Jukurrpa – Puyurru (Water Dreaming), stories passed down to him through the many generations. These stories are creation stories that relate to his family’s traditional country, traditions that stretch back for millennia. He uses an unrestricted palette to depict his traditional iconography, at the same time developing a modern individualist style, using bold designs in a variety of contexts.

Buying Aboriginal art helps to support Indigenous artists in many ways. Not only does it provide a source of income for the artist but it is also a way to keep traditional culture alive and to share this culture with the younger generations.

How The Art Is Sourced

This artwork comes from Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation in Yuendumu, Central Australia. Established in 1985, it is one of the longest running Aboriginal-owned art centres and operates as a 100% Aboriginal-owned, not-for-profit organisation.

More than 600 artists from Yuendumu, Nyirripi and surrounding communities contribute their work. Warlukurlangu is renowned for its colourful acrylic paintings and limited-edition prints, which have been exhibited nationally and internationally.

The name “Warlukurlangu” means “belonging to fire” in the Warlpiri language. The centre exists to maintain and share Indigenous culture, support artists, and pass traditions to future generations.
