This dot painting painting is by Valda Napangardi Granites.

Valda is the granddaughter of the late Paddy Japaljarri Sims (1916 – 2010) and Bessie Nakamarra Sims (1932 – 2012), two founding artists of Warlukurlangu Artists an Aboriginal Owned Art Centre in Central Australia.

Valda was born in 1974 in Alice Springs and grew up in Yuendumu, an Aboriginal community located 290 kms north-west of Alice Springs, where she still lives. She attended the local school. Valda has been painting with Warlukurlangu Artists since 1993. She paints the Jukurrpa (Dreaming) stories passed down to her by her mother and father and their parents before them for millennia. These are creation stories which closely relate to the features and animals found in her family’s traditional lands. Valda is married and has one daughter.

Indigenous artwork from Australia makes a memorable Australian gift for corporate events, special birthdays, weddings and anniversaries. It is also an amazing statement piece of wall art for the home. Worldwide delivery available.

How The Art Is Sourced

This artwork comes from Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation in Yuendumu, Central Australia. Established in 1985, it is one of the longest running Aboriginal-owned art centres and operates as a 100% Aboriginal-owned, not-for-profit organisation.

More than 600 artists from Yuendumu, Nyirripi and surrounding communities contribute their work. Warlukurlangu is renowned for its colourful acrylic paintings and limited-edition prints, which have been exhibited nationally and internationally.

The name “Warlukurlangu” means “belonging to fire” in the Warlpiri language. The centre exists to maintain and share Indigenous culture, support artists, and pass traditions to future generations.
