Top 5 Spring/ Summer Homeware Trends October 07 2015
We can’t get enough of our design magazines, renovation shows and homeware stores, and we’re always on the look out for the latest trends and ideas to inspire not only the Bits of Australia range of products but for our own home too!
Moving into the warmer months, we’ve noticed that the mood in home decorating has shifted from dark moody blues, gold, copper and rose metallics and heavy concrete towards lighter, brighter shades and materials.
Here are our top five trends and a selection of Australian-made homewares to give your home an instant update for the Spring/ Summer 2015-16 season:
Neutrals & Pastels:
Beige is definitely not boring, and soft shades like eggshell, apricot and duck egg blue are now considered delicate and modern. This delicate colour palette is best styled alongside neutral, white and grey furnishings and should be used sparingly – or else risk looking kitschy or like a child’s nursery.
These neutral cushion covers and tea towels will help create an elegant and graceful look in your home.
Eco-friendly and sustainably sourced homewares and products are becoming increasingly popular as we become more aware of our impact on our environment. Natural, earthy tones and materials are making their way into all areas of the home including gorgeous floors, bespoke furniture and accessories all made from sustainably sourced timbers.
Add a touch of raw wood to your home with these coasters and tea light holders made from Banksia seed pods, collected according to strict State Forestry rules.
Australiana-inspired designs have been making a comeback in recent years, with many Aussie fashion designers (Romance Was Born) dedicating entire collections to celebrating all things native Australian. In turn, homewares illustrating our unique and iconic flora and fauna have also begun to emerge. This is definitely our favourite trend of the moment!
Bring our amazing native flowers and animal indoors with these modern Australian designed placemats and fridge magnets.
Seen most recently all over the catwalks at both David Jones’ and Myer’s Spring/Summer fashion shows, this classic black and white look is timeless and simple. Easily add a pop of colour with a vase of fresh flowers and a brightly coloured throw to quickly transform and lift your room.
These two-toned cushion covers and tea towels will never go out of style and are sure to suit just about any home and style.
Contemporary Colour & Patterns:
Don’t be afraid to add bold colours and patterns around your home to help create a lively and fluid atmosphere to an otherwise lackluster space. Perk up your room with the vibrant colours and eye-catching patterns found in many contemporary Australian Aboriginal artworks and sharing an important cultural story too!
Try adding some of our Aboriginal art inspired coasters or tea towels to your home, and support local artists and their communities.
