Spotlight on Adelaide - Australia's Wine Capital September 03 2015

Known by many Australians as the 'city of churches', Adelaide in South Australia is actually not the city in Australia with the most churches or number of churches per capita or even the second city on this list. When you visit this cosmopolitan coastal city you discover that although there are a fair number of church spires here, the city is definitely more deserving of the title of 'the City of wine and live music'.

The city that loves to party

The Adelaide Festival, Adelaide Fringe Festival and WOMADelaide make 'Mad March' one month-long party. With major sports events such as the Santos Tour Down Under, the Adelaide Cup, the World Tennis Challenge and Clipsal 500 Adelaide V8 car race happening throughout the year, there is also plenty of action to keep sports fans happy. This vibrant city has a lively calendar of annual events which offers entertainment for the whole family.

Exploring the Wine Capital

Adelaide is not referred to by so many as the wine capital of Australia for no reason. With over 200 cellar doors located in Adelaide and its surrounds, wine lovers will feel like this city has been designed solely for the purpose of taking the ultimate winery tour!  You will find some world-famous food and wine regions such as Barossa and the Clare Valley right on Adelaide's doorstep. But there is much more to explore, including McLaren Vale, the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, and Coonawarra, just to name a few!

You can taste all of the wines in one go at The National Wine Centre of Australia in Adelaide. The centre gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy Australia's largest tasting room experience and the winemaking process from the ground up.
The annual Cellar Door Wine Festival is another great way to experience South Australia's finest food and wine. You get the chance to meet over 170 food and wine producers from 15 different wine regions while enjoying complimentary tastings.

You will find several of these wonderful wine regions on our Australian Red Wines Cotton Tea Towel. This tea towel is perfect for wine lovers and is a great souvenir if you have just visited some of Australia's famous wine regions such as those found in South Australia.
