March is set to be a mammoth month filled with fast cars, fine food and wine and a flurry of feather boas, face-paint, fashion and festival fever! We have hand-picked a few of our favourite events happening around the nation so you don't miss out on the action.
WOMADelaide (SA): 6-9 March
WOMADelaide is one of Australia's favourite outdoor festivals thanks to the diversity of music, arts and dance on show and the welcoming atmosphere that comes with this fun-filled 4 day event. Adelaide's Botanic Park will play host to more than 400 performances by Australian and international musicians, artists and dancers. There will be plenty of activities to entertain the kiddies (children under 12 get free entry), decadent delicacies to stick your fork into, and wonderful workshops which give you a hands-on opportunity to learn from the artists and step into their marvellous world for a day.
Moomba (VIC): 6 – 9 March
Melbourne's city streets, parks and iconic Yarra River will become a blur of colour, costumes and cotton candy for the Moomba Festival 2015 on Labour Day weekend (in VIC). From the magical Moomba Parade lead by the celebrity king and queen, to the hilarious Birdman Rally, there is fun to be had by everyone. The festival culminates in a spectacular fireworks display over the river in the heart of this culture-crammed city.
Sydney Mardi Gras Parade (NSW): 7 March
If you haven't managed to make it yet to the 2015 Sydney Mardi Gras festival which began on 20 February, there is still time enjoy the flamboyant festivities! The most anticipated event of this dazzling celebration of LGBTQI pride is the 37th Annual Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade which will see 10,000 people from all over the world flocking to Oxford & Flinders Streets, Darlinghurst, Sydney on the night of Saturday 7 March.
Bleach* Festival (QLD): 6 – 22 March
If you love the beach and live music, make sure you add the Bleach* Festival to your social events calendar. The Gold Coast's largest arts and cultural festival, Bleach* is over 2 weeks jam-packed with art, contemporary live music, and a mega celebration of the Gold Coast’s Beach Culture. Enjoy the sun and the sand and party under the stars at a mix of free and paid off-the-water events.
Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe (WA), 6 – 23 March
Sculpture by the Sea is a free annual exhibition held at Cottesloe Beach. From the 6 to 23 March more than 70 Australian and international artists will transform the most popular beach in Perth into a magnificent sculpture park. Enjoy stunning sculpture art whilst taking in peaceful ocean views and breathtaking sunsets. This is the sister event to the Sculpture by the Sea exhibition held at Bondi Beach in Sydney in October.
Canberra Balloon Spectacular (ACT): 7 – 15 March
The 2015 Canberra Balloon Spectacular is a world-class hot air ballooning event which will run for nine exhilarating days. The pilots begin laying out and inflating their balloons on the lawns of Old Parliament House at 6.15am every morning, before commencing their ascent and filling our sky with a flurry of colour and movement.
Take a thrilling balloon flight and see Canberra's iconic landmarks from the heavens, or watch the balloons slowly drift across the sky with your feet firmly planted on the ground. Either way you will be awestruck by this feast for the senses after this sensational sunrise experience.
Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix (VIC): 12 – 15 March
Motorsports fans from around the world will be visiting or watching Melbourne for the 2015 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix this month. All eyes will be on Australian Formula One superstar, Daniel Ricciardo whose his temporary podium at last year's Australian Grand Prix has made him believe he can at least match that performance in this year's Formula One season-opener at Albert Park.
Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VIC): 14 – 22 March
If fashion is your passion, you'd better get wardrobe-ready Australia's biggest fashion event. Get your hottest heels on and hit the world-class runway shows, beauty workshops and fabulous forums with your besties. Australia's established and emerging designers will be celebrated during this wonderful week of style, beauty and creativity.
